SUBSTITUTE REGISTERED NURSES
Qualifications: R.N. License NYS
Employees in the class perform professional nursing duties in the care of students in schools. Incumbents are responsible for maintaining acceptable health standards and providing continuing and/or emergency treatment for those under their care. Responsibilities also include the performance of diversified nursing duties in accordance with professional practices, special orders from physicians, and established rules and regulations. The work is performed under the general supervision of a physician, or other administrative official, permitting the exercise of independent judgement in carrying out the details of the work. General supervision may be exercised oer Licensed Practical Nurses and clerical employees. Does related work as required.
Typical Work Activities:
- Provides nursing services at health clinics and/or schools
- Performs related services in the prevention of illness
- May administer first aid and emergency treatment
- Processes and maintains records and prepares reports as needed;
- Makes contacts through established procedures with appropriate agencies to assure patient or student needed service or follow-up care
- May prepare and apply dressing, and administer medication and treatments as prescribed by physicians
- May provide care to physically or mentally ill patients in schools and/or clinics
- May assist in physical, visual and auditory screening examinations
- May counsel students on preventative healthcare methods
- May review student records for health concerns
- Any other duty as assigned by the building principal
