An English Language Arts teacher's job is to help students understand literacy concepts and apply them to writing and literature. ELA teachers also teach students how to think critically, analyze literary concepts, and state claims and support them with evidence. Teachers of all disciplines play a critical role in helping students to build and expand reading and critical thinking skills. Responsibilities Lesson planning: Create lesson plans that meet the needs of all students
Teaching: Deliver engaging lessons that help students understand mathematical concepts
Grading: Grade assignments, quizzes, tests/benchmark exams, and final exams
Student support: Provide extra help to students who need it
Communication: Communicate with students, parents, and other staff
Assessment: Evaluate student performance and monitor progress
Professional development: Meet state requirements for professional development
Classroom management: Create a safe and positive learning environment
Curriculum: Use curriculum resources that reflect the students' diverse backgrounds
Skills Ability to explain literary concepts to students
Ability to represent abstract concepts in concrete ways
Passion for English literature, writing and teaching
Ability to work well with students and colleagues
